How to add an Office 365 shared mailbox in iOS mail

Purpose

Once you’ve setup a shared mailbox in Office 365 to make use of this common email addresses, you will want to configure your iPhone or iPad access it.

Prerequisites

  • A shared mailbox previously setup in Office 365
  • An iOS device like an iPhone or iPad running the latest version of iOS

Solution

  1. Get to your home screen and open the Settings app
  2. Scroll to Mail and select it
  3. Select Accounts
  4. Select Add Account
  5. Select Other
  6. Select Add Mail Account
  7. In the New Account screen enter the following information:
    1. Name: shared mailbox name (i.e. info)
    2. Email: shared mailbox email address (i.e. info@mydomain.com)
    3. Password: your normal email account password
    4. Description: preferred display name for this account
  8. At the top right-hand side of the screen select Next
  9. With the IMAP tab selected, under Incoming Mail Server enter the following information:
    1. Host Name: outlook.office365.com
    2. User Name: your email address/shared mailbox email address (i.e. myemail@mydomain.com/info@mydomain.com)
  10. Under Outgoing Mail Server enter the following information:
    1. Host Name: smtp.office365.com
  11. At the top right-hand corner of the screen select Next
  12. Once the settings are verified, at the top right-hand corner of the screen select Save
  13. At the top left-hand corner of the screen select Mail
  14. At the top left-hand corner of the screen select Settings
  15. Press the Home button to exit the Settings app
